Traffic Report - Red Barn Yarn Name This Yarn Contest
As part of the Red Barn Yarn Name This Yarn Contest blog/podcast tour, I am excited to tell you about a new to-be-named yarn base. Thank you to Red Barn Yarn and Stitchcraft Marketing for including the Commuter Knitter podcast on this tour and for providing a skein of this lovely yarn for me to check out.
I scoured my Ravelry library for the perfect pattern to cast on for this yarn. I knew that I wanted a hat and was immediately drawn to the Koolhaas pattern by Jared Flood from Interweave Holiday Gifts 2007. Who doesn't love a good lattice cabled hat in bright pink, right?
So far I am only into the ribbing of the hat, but I'm enjoying the knitting quite a bit. I do not have a sensitivity to alpaca or mohair, so you will want to take that into consideration if you have a sensitivity or allergy to either of those fibers.
If you would like to get your hands on a sample, you are in luck! Red Barn Yarn is offering Commuter Knitter Podcast listeners a free sample if you email info@redbarnyarn.com to request a sample and join their mailing list. Samples available to be sent worldwide.
Then, if you want to enter the contest, please send your yarn name and inspiration to info@redbarnyarn.com with the subject line "NAME THIS YARN CONTEST SUBMISSION". The only rules being that the name should be PG rated. If your name is chosen you will win the following grand prize: a 1-year subscription to Love of Knitting magazine, a sweater quantity (7 skeins, 1575 yds) in the to-be-named yarn, and your name on a special tag for the first year of sales.
Second and Third prize winners will receive a 1-year subscription to Love of Knitting and 2 skeins of the yarn.
Pretty cool, eh?
The blog tour ends on October 3rd, and the last day to submit entries is November 15th. The winner will be announced on November 25th.
You should definitely check out this yarn and enter the contest - have fun and good luck!!
This is a 2-ply, worsted weight blend of 45% mountain merino, 40% alpaca and 15% mohair. The 225 yard skein I received is a vibrant Hot Pink, which let me tell you was a difficult color to capture on the camera!
